A Very Special Thanks to Callum Finn Price!

As a special blog post,

Lucid Dreams decided to honour our friend Callum Finn Price from Edinburgh, Scotland for his great passion for games and his great knowledge in game design at the age of only 13. Callum was one of the few people at Protoplay that managed to touch our hearts with his great interest in our game. By sitting down and writing some really interesting game ideas for Desire FX, Callum has earned himself a special place within this blog.

Not only has Callum shown true talent within game design, but he has shown us a younger version of ourselves when we were 13 and dreaming of creating better games. It was a wonderful thing to see a younger reflection of ourselves within Callum. With this said, we trully hope to hear more from this great young boy aged 13 now in the future. Could it be that we have seen the next Will Wright in Callum? Who knows? Great game designers were born with a gift, a gift that we believe that have seen within Callum.

Lucid Dreams honours you Callum Finn Price, we honour you for your talent as a game designer and we honour you for your great passion for games!

May all of your dreams come true and may you become the next great game designer that the future looks up to.

Best Wishes,
The Lucid Dream Team

The Days after Dare

Hello, hello everybody,

Here I am again with some latest updates on the team Lucid Dreams. Well, as you all know... Dare to be Digital has come to an end about a week ago and we have all been very calm and quiet for a while as we have been recovering from our days of development. To my knowledge, the team has been quite relaxed lately, just enjoying some time off and getting back into our daily lives. Some of us have started our quest for job hunting and others started our quest for love in Scotland! Yes, that would be our big mouth Nintendo fanboy Ross Darvill himself. To my surprise, I haven't heard anything from good old Ross again ever since we finished Dare. I haven't even seen the man online funny enough so yeah... Pretty much he must have found his Scottish love, or the man is hiding away from the media and the public... :)

As for the rest of us, well... it has all been quite calm. We have been pleased to know that we have made it to the top 6 contestants of the competition, but where a little let down by the final results. We feel that at least our fellow EA team "Super EGO" should have gotten a placement among the top 3, but oh well... the world can not always spin to our favour. We have learned quite a bit about many aspects of video game development and have gotten a first taste of the gaming industry out there. From our experiences, we all have different opinions and views on the industry today, but I think I speak for my entire team when I say that unfortunately the gaming industry is not being run by the right people. Games development should be given back to game developers who are in fact true gamers and actually PLAY GAMES!

On the other hand, we are still in awe with the massive amount of support that we have received from EA Games and all of its staff during the development of our game. Our time at EA was by far the best moment of the competition and the people that we have met there have all become true friends of Lucid Dreams. We have learned massive amounts from these great mentors and we will definitely keep these wonderful memories in our hearts for many, many years to come.

Now, for the interesting feedback that we have received (Picked up by our good old uncle Stacey), we have posted it here for you to see and enjoy. Please follow the link below for further information...

In general, we are satisfied with our results and we have achieved our goals which was to develop a good prototype within 10 weeks and make it to the top 6 teams. Obviously we had dreams to make it further and even win the competition, but as time passed, we realised that a placement within the top 6 teams would have been a great achievement for our prototype and this is exactly what we have achieved. As a final conclusion, I would personally like to congratulate Phoenix Seed for their great artistic performance during the competition and the makers of Climactic for delivering an outstanding prototype within 10 weeks time.

As for now... I will keep myself busy with a lovely 3 week vacation in Spain. Till then, stay cool and keep playing games!

Rowen "The Machine" Holt

Today is the day that we, the Lucid Dreams team members congratulate Rowen Holt for his outstanding performance during the Dare to be Digital competition. Rowen has shown us the meaning of a true soldier and has fought hard and faithfully till the very last seconds.

Rowen has surpassed all of our expectations in every possible way by making the so called “impossible”, possible. Wherever there was a problem, Rowen showed us the best possible solution he knew and even though it might not always have been a perfect one, he guided us through tough times and got us to believe again.

It is because of this display of extraordinary courage and endurance that we have decided to name Rowen Holt our bravest and toughest team member.

We congratulate you Rowen; you are the one that has made the TRUE difference.

Bad to the Bone

It's 02:00 and we're transmitting to you LIVE from the deepest pits of the massive game development machine. We give you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth on your favourite radio station. "EA Radio" Work is still being done at this very moment and we are loving every second of it. The final geometry is being imported into Virtools and the promotional shots are still hot out of the production oven. As I said... we are loving every second of it...

This is what game development is all about! The passion to create virtual worlds way past midnight and still love it. The love you put into every pixel of your creation can be felt from miles away. The desire to improve every single element of this game runs through our veins. Our endless hunger for creating this game haunts us at all times and follows us into our deepest dreams. We are bad... BAD TO THE BONE!

Check this link for an idea how bad we are... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWdis9zTizg

On another note, we had our legendary mentor, Mark Stacey sit down with us at a local pub for some quality time with the boys. Out of respect for this wonderful man, we actually named our Virtual Island after him. It's been officially named "Stacey Island" and we have a lovely image to go with it. So if you're out there listening to this station Mark... We Lucid Dreams thank and love you!

Just another remake

Hey guys,

Yes it has been a while since this blog has had some new paint to it so I decided to do just that. We have all been extremely busy lately which explains why we haven't been posting that much on our blog. But hey... at least our game has been coming together which is definitely what we want to happen. Click on the image to see an enlarged version of where we were standing a couple of days ago visually. In terms of art we are pretty much getting to the finish line, but you know what they say right? It ain't over till the fatty sings so we stay alert for any new tasks that might come up at these last minutes. Ross and I have been delivering the last couple of pieces of art to the programmers and feel quite happy and confident about our results. On the other hand, we also know that Richard and Rowen will be very, very busy these last couple of days as scripting things can be a real challenge so we stand ready to support them as well as we can.

We have also managed to get a short 15 second gameplay video together which doesn't really show that much except for some aiming mechanics and some flying animations. I suppose that we'll post it on this blog soon or we might even post a better and longer version of it at a later stage in stead. We'll have to wait and see...

Oh, for those who are interested in seeing more of our artwork in progress, you can now catch a little visual preview of our game on my website http://www.djaentertainment.com/. As long as you remember that the stuff you'll see on there is a work in progress and I can assure you that the visuals have improved quite a bit in the meantime. As we are closing in on the finish line, more info will become available and then hopefully that one file that we have all been waiting for... our FINAL GOLD MASTER version of the Desire FX prototype. From what I have seen so far, things look good and it can only get better from here on so till then, let us do our magic and we'll make sure to deliver our best possible results.
