Rowen "The Machine" Holt

Today is the day that we, the Lucid Dreams team members congratulate Rowen Holt for his outstanding performance during the Dare to be Digital competition. Rowen has shown us the meaning of a true soldier and has fought hard and faithfully till the very last seconds.

Rowen has surpassed all of our expectations in every possible way by making the so called “impossible”, possible. Wherever there was a problem, Rowen showed us the best possible solution he knew and even though it might not always have been a perfect one, he guided us through tough times and got us to believe again.

It is because of this display of extraordinary courage and endurance that we have decided to name Rowen Holt our bravest and toughest team member.

We congratulate you Rowen; you are the one that has made the TRUE difference.

Bad to the Bone

It's 02:00 and we're transmitting to you LIVE from the deepest pits of the massive game development machine. We give you the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth on your favourite radio station. "EA Radio" Work is still being done at this very moment and we are loving every second of it. The final geometry is being imported into Virtools and the promotional shots are still hot out of the production oven. As I said... we are loving every second of it...

This is what game development is all about! The passion to create virtual worlds way past midnight and still love it. The love you put into every pixel of your creation can be felt from miles away. The desire to improve every single element of this game runs through our veins. Our endless hunger for creating this game haunts us at all times and follows us into our deepest dreams. We are bad... BAD TO THE BONE!

Check this link for an idea how bad we are... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWdis9zTizg

On another note, we had our legendary mentor, Mark Stacey sit down with us at a local pub for some quality time with the boys. Out of respect for this wonderful man, we actually named our Virtual Island after him. It's been officially named "Stacey Island" and we have a lovely image to go with it. So if you're out there listening to this station Mark... We Lucid Dreams thank and love you!

Just another remake

Hey guys,

Yes it has been a while since this blog has had some new paint to it so I decided to do just that. We have all been extremely busy lately which explains why we haven't been posting that much on our blog. But hey... at least our game has been coming together which is definitely what we want to happen. Click on the image to see an enlarged version of where we were standing a couple of days ago visually. In terms of art we are pretty much getting to the finish line, but you know what they say right? It ain't over till the fatty sings so we stay alert for any new tasks that might come up at these last minutes. Ross and I have been delivering the last couple of pieces of art to the programmers and feel quite happy and confident about our results. On the other hand, we also know that Richard and Rowen will be very, very busy these last couple of days as scripting things can be a real challenge so we stand ready to support them as well as we can.

We have also managed to get a short 15 second gameplay video together which doesn't really show that much except for some aiming mechanics and some flying animations. I suppose that we'll post it on this blog soon or we might even post a better and longer version of it at a later stage in stead. We'll have to wait and see...

Oh, for those who are interested in seeing more of our artwork in progress, you can now catch a little visual preview of our game on my website http://www.djaentertainment.com/. As long as you remember that the stuff you'll see on there is a work in progress and I can assure you that the visuals have improved quite a bit in the meantime. As we are closing in on the finish line, more info will become available and then hopefully that one file that we have all been waiting for... our FINAL GOLD MASTER version of the Desire FX prototype. From what I have seen so far, things look good and it can only get better from here on so till then, let us do our magic and we'll make sure to deliver our best possible results.

Bye Piers!

This is Piers, camera man to the stars (of Dare) and also Akon (who actually is a star). He wields the awesome power of the video camera, and after a brief bit of e-digging, also did loads of other interesting stuff.

Today was our last video shoot as it were and having seen the other guys causally lent against burnt cars and against demo pods, were quite relieved to have ours in the EA shop. Ross was actually trying to get us to do it in the toilet but thats... well creepy.

It went really well and was a nice little look back on our time at Dare and gave us the chance to say thanks to people as well as call out fellow honkies zerO.One to a drinking contest. I mean they're Irish how hard-core can they be :)

It'll be really cool to see the result. We promised Piers a post Dare exclusive should we win anything and / or a "Dare: Behind the Game" style documentary, he also seemed genuinely interested in games which was cool so hopefully it wont be the last we see of him.

Oh yeah the whole making a game thing - well today we were a bit fractured in the morning as we all decided to drop our stuff off over the weekend to avoid it being a mare this week, so myself and Rowen missioned it about doing A) ghetto laptop repairs (compressed air and heat board ftw) and B) looking into getting our promo materials sorted. Mmmm 2040 + packets of Love Hearts.

Other than that its business as usual, island is now completely tied up, weighing in at 20% less polys thanks to Ross. We also have a textured and signed sea world and other bits and pieces. Vegetation keeps going in as well as all our awesome nudgeables and epic crab.

We've been having a bit of a mare with Visual Studio 2003 and its phantom first disc and we had another visit from Ian from Lionhead to add to our fantastic weekend focus testing. So were still going, to quote the Zapper:

If we can hit that bull's-eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate!

EDIT

How did i not post this!
